Our Work
Concrete action, in the service of the community
From access to water to education, from community health to solidarity with our elders, RECIDEP works wherever the needs of Paillant call.
Access to water
Water is at the very origin of RECIDEP. Since 2009, the organization has worked to distribute water to the people of Paillant, particularly in the town center. This local service relies on a minimal contribution from the families served, which makes it possible to maintain the system and guarantee its continuity.
The organization also ensures that the equipment works properly: when the hydraulic pump needed repairs, RECIDEP was able to mobilize technical expertise, including from abroad, to bring the installation back into service for the benefit of the population.
Education and culture
RECIDEP deeply believes in the power of education. The organization acts on several fronts:
- organizing spelling, mathematics, and Creole competitions that encourage excellence and pride among the commune's students
- the annual distribution of school supplies and basic necessities, made possible thanks to the support of the organization's friends
- the Paillant library, opened in February 2018, which provides books and a study space for young people, enriched in particular by book donations, including those received from Maastricht University.
Community health
RECIDEP carries out health awareness and training activities for the benefit of the population. In November 2011, a dental health training session, led by two doctors and hosted by the Catholic church of Paillant, brought together more than one hundred participants. These initiatives bring health information closer to residents and encourage good practices in daily life.
Solidarity and social life
Respect for elders is a core value of RECIDEP. The organization holds celebrations in honor of senior citizens: a moment when the commune pays tribute to those who worked all their lives. In Paillant, most senior citizens are women, long engaged in agriculture, trade, and caring for children. Paying tribute to them means recognizing their contribution to the social fabric of the commune.
RECIDEP also hosts other community gatherings, such as Mother’s Day, celebrated most recently in May 2023, with songs, speeches, and gift-giving.
Community development and infrastructure
RECIDEP contributes to improving living conditions in the commune:
- taking part, in December 2009, in a project to improve Paillant's electrical grid, together with EDH
- building a community market shelter in Mussotte, financed by MINUSTAH, providing residents and traders with an adequate space to buy and sell
- supporting local sports, through assistance in organizing football championships.
Every action begins with support.
