About Paillant

Paillant, a young commune in the heart of Nippes

Discover the community that inspires RECIDEP’s work every day: a welcoming commune with a mild climate, carried by a population deeply attached to its land and its people.

A commune in the Nippes department

Paillant is a commune in the Nippes department, in southwestern Haiti, near the city of Miragoâne. It is a young commune of about sixteen thousand inhabitants, spread between the town center and the surrounding sections, such as Bézin.

An appreciated living environment

Paillant is an attractive area, known for its mild climate: the altitude brings a pleasant freshness, far from intense heat. It is a place where people live as a family, where neighborly ties remain strong, and where community life holds a central place, around the church, the school, the market, and, since 2018, the library.

Potential worth developing

The commune has real assets: a young and dynamic population, women who are very active in agriculture, trade, and childcare, forest cover that could support large-scale environmental projects, and a diaspora deeply attached to its home commune.

Like many Haitian communes, Paillant also faces challenges: access to water, electricity, healthcare, and educational resources requires constant effort. This is precisely where citizen action takes on its full meaning.

Paillant and RECIDEP: a shared destiny

RECIDEP was born in Paillant, from the will of its residents. Every one of the organization’s projects (water distribution, the library, school competitions, community celebrations) is designed for and with the people of the commune. Supporting RECIDEP means directly supporting Paillant and its people.
