Projects that have changed daily life in Paillant

Since 2009, RECIDEP has been turning the commune’s needs into concrete achievements. Here are some of them.

The Paillant library

This is one of RECIDEP’s flagship projects. Prepared as early as January 2012 and announced again in December 2014, the project came to fruition on February 5, 2018, with the grand opening of the Paillant library, in the presence of regional figures, including a former mayor of MiragoĆ¢ne. Today, the library offers the commune’s youth a place dedicated to reading, study, and openness to the world.

The books from Maastricht University

In September 2012, books donated by Maastricht University made their way to Haiti to enrich the documentary resources available to the community. This donation illustrates the international reach of the solidarity that RECIDEP is able to mobilize for the benefit of Paillant.

The dental health training

In November 2011, RECIDEP organized a training session on dental health and hygiene, led by two doctors. The Catholic church of Paillant lent its premises for the occasion, and more than one hundred people took part in the event, a fine success of community mobilization around health.

The first seminar on local taxation

On November 12 and 13, 2011, RECIDEP hosted in Paillant a first seminar devoted to local taxation: a citizens’ initiative to strengthen the community’s understanding of local governance issues.

The celebrations for senior citizens

RECIDEP organizes celebrations in honor of the commune’s elders, inviting people aged 70 and over to a day of tribute and sharing. Editions were held in October 2014 and December 2020, among others. These celebrations reflect one of the organization’s founding convictions: a community that honors its elders is a community that respects itself.

Mother's Day

In May 2023, RECIDEP organized an edition of Mother’s Day in Paillant: songs, prayers, slam poetry, performances by local artists, refreshments, and gift-giving marked this day dedicated to the mothers of the commune.

The community market shelter in Mussotte

With funding from MINUSTAH, RECIDEP built a market shelter in Mussotte. This space allows residents and traders to buy and sell in more dignified and better organized conditions, a sign of respect for the population.

The improvement of the electrical grid

In December 2009, RECIDEP took part, together with EDH, in a project to improve Paillant’s electrical grid, contributing to better access to energy in the commune.

In-kind donations received and put to use

Over the years, RECIDEP has received and put to good use in-kind donations for the benefit of the community: chairs donated by Frantz Paillant and Daniel Mike, furniture for the church (new pews and altars), books, as well as school supplies distributed to students every year.

The repair of the hydraulic pump

True to its original mission, RECIDEP oversaw the restoration of the pump that supplies the water distribution system, mobilizing the technical expertise of Water For Life and the generous assistance of ELMECEN, through the interventions of engineer Marcel JosuĆ©. This project illustrates the organization’s ability to maintain, over the long term, the essential services it has put in place.

The visit from AGIR members

In October 2014, RECIDEP welcomed to Paillant two members of AGIR, a French organization made up of retired professionals, invited by Father Voltaire and Dr. Jean-Mary. These exchanges reflect RECIDEP’s openness to international partnerships and expert support.

The construction of the town entrance

On December 12, 2025, the town entrance was inaugurated by Monsignor Yves Voltaire and the parish priest, Reverend Father Eliscar Pierre Alix, in the presence of the town’s magistrate, Ronald Metellus, and many notables and central government officials. After more than eight months of work, under the supervision of engineer Camille Ruben, who was in charge of executing the plan generously donated by engineer Malherbe Colas, who closely followed the progress of the work from a distance, the structure was handed over to the public. The community expresses its gratitude to this big-hearted professional, whose availability is invaluable.

Unfortunately, shortly afterwards, an accident caused by the passage of a crane belonging to the Ministry of Public Works, Transport and Communication (MTPTC), which violently struck one of the columns, led to the demolition of the town entrance for safety reasons.

Radio Paillant Inter "RPI"

For about seven years, since December 12, 2019, RECIDEP has taken the initiative of reopening this community radio station. A well-deserved tribute must be paid to the founder of this institution, Mr. Gregory Casimir, who had the wisdom to pass the torch to RECIDEP.

The station plays a major role in motivating the population and raising awareness on the environment, sports, education, health, culture, and more.
